Aimé-daniel steinlen was born in 1923 in saint-amand-les-eaux, in the north, and died in 1996. His family had no less than three painters, and his path was naturally traced. After a year of medicine, he entered the national school of fine arts. Drawing teacher, printer, illustrator of art books, worthy successor to his great-uncle theophile alexandre steinlen - draughtsman, engraver and lithographer - he inherited the love of his neighbour and his mastery of portraiture. Whether in a few strokes drawn with a brush or thanks to the bite of his chisel, he gives everyone his share of truth, thus proving the superiority of the painting over the immediacy of the photograph. But this man of the north is also a formidable colorist, known above all for his paintings, finding in the calm of his house vendée "the great spaces of flanders, the light in addition", according to his own words. The maritime scenes, the wide horizons under an autumn sun, on which stand out trees with branches lying down by the wind, the lands with deep ploughs enclosing the sweat of men, waiting for the alchemy of winter, are his favorite themes. He obtained numerous distinctions, including the national order of arts and letters, and participated in numerous exhibitions and exhibitions, both in france and abroad. His works appear in many french and foreign collections. At the carrés d'art editions, he illustrated verhaeren's "guirlande des dunes, " "yesterday and today" and "torchères" by hervé bazin.
