This woodcut, or ukiyo-e, signed by the artist ogata gekko (1859-1920). It depicts two samurai in battle, "kato kiyomasa fighting an enemy at the battle of shizugadake". This scene is part of the album gekko zuihitsu, plate 28, edited by matsuki heikichi and dating from meiji 24 (1891). The term "oban" means the most common format for engraving in japan, measuring about 37 × 25 cm, while "tate-e" indicates that the engraving is vertical. Stamped framed under glass in an oak frame. Very good condition. Frame: 45 X 33.5 X 1 cm. Oban: 36 X 25 cm approx.
