Counter or desk (likely from a bank or notary's office), stamped "Amax, André Ray". (See photo) André Ray appears to have been a specialist in secure cash drawers for businesses, banks, etc., during our investigation of this counter. We found an advertisement from the 1930 Lyon Fair, which we have included among the photos as a curiosity. (Advertisement not included with this counter) The counter consists of a classic customer reception area at the front and seven drawers on the "employee" side. The middle drawer is the cash drawer, secured by the Amax-André Ray system, with an alarm bell and a system of pins under the handle that allowed for mechanical programming of the opening by pressing the corresponding pins. (See photos) Today, the drawer opens without a specific combination. The bell works and rings (Ding!) each time it opens and closes—a charming detail! The André Ray stamp is also found in this drawer. A small drop-leaf shelf on the left side facilitated access for the user while blocking access for the person being received. The counter is in excellent condition and perfectly usable as is. The signs of use (or age) on the leather top and/or the wood give it a beautiful patina. The entire piece is sound (treated) and clean. Dimensions: 200 x 64 x 80 cm (height). Shelf: 31 x 64 cm (width).
