Louis Poulsen Charlottenborg 5 4 1/2 Pendant Lamp, Poul Henningsen, Danish

One of the most interesting lamps in the history of Danish design. The Charlottenborg was originally designed by Poul Henningsen in the 1930s. In 1979, it was redesigned by Sophus Frandsen and Ebbe Christensen specifically for the Charlottenborg exhibition hall in Copenhagen. This smaller 5-4½ version was created in 1984 for the concert hall in Aarhus. The four-shade version was designed to increase the amount of light emitted horizontally, providing better illumination of walls and shelves than the standard three-shade version.
