Oil painting on canvas by Salvatore Balsamo (Naples 1894-1922)

A magnificent work by the Neapolitan painter Salvatore Balsamo, dating from the first two decades of the 20th century. Oil on canvas. Gilded period frame with minor imperfections. Dimensions: canvas 80 X 42 cm - frame 95 X 57 cm. Salvatore Balsamo (Naples, 1894 – Naples, 1922) was an Italian painter. Trained in his hometown under Vincenzo Irolli, Giuseppe Casciaro, and Eugenio Scorzelli, he died at the age of twenty-eight, leaving little biographical information. He distinguished himself as a landscape painter with a vigorous and spontaneous style, influenced by his masters and the work of Nicolas De Corsi. His works are preserved in the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Milan and in the collections of the Fondazione Cariplo.
