In 1949, the communist party, very committed to peace action alongside christians and freethinkers, asked picasso to design a poster symbolizing the peace movement. The artist traced the profile of a dove, holding in its beak an olive branch. In the spring of the same year, picasso's dove was affixed to all the walls of european cities. Picasso will have a daughter, that same year he will name paloma (which means dove) The dove then becomes the symbol of peace. Picasso made several drawings for the peace movement, in particular to illustrate the posters of the congresses of the world peace council.
