He lives and works between paris and berlin. After studying at the academy of fine arts in munich between 1956 and 1960, the german painter settled permanently in paris. He was a professor at the école nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in paris where he taught from 1987 to 1992. A monograph by yves michaud appeared in 2001 and a second by anne tronche appeared in 2015. He is the subject of major exhibitions notably at the museum of fine arts of dunkirk in 2002, at the palais synodal de sens in 2008, at the museum arnhem in the netherlands in 2010, at the espace d'art contemporain andré malraux, in colmar in 2021. His works appear today in the collections of many museums: musée d'art moderne de la ville de paris, moderna museet in stockholm, museum of fine arts in dunkirk, center georges pompidou in paris.
