Large open antique French shelf, originally used as shop furniture, from a clothing store in Vichy, France. The piece dates from the 1930s and is entirely made of solid pine wood. Made by Chalmette, a French furniture manufacturer based in Issoire (Puy-de-Dôme), this shelf is distinguished by its tall architectural structure, a central vertical support, fixed shelves, a moulded cornice at the top, and a plinth base. The relatively shallow depth is typical of shop shelves from this period, allowing for effective display while maintaining a limited footprint. The wide compartments reflect its original use for folded clothing and shop display. The surfaces show visible wear, marks, and a patina consistent with age and prolonged commercial use, contributing to the authentic character of the piece.
