Pair of frosted glass flower vases, Germany, 1970s

Two glass blocks that appear to have been carved from ice. At the heart of each, a narrow and deep opening descends like a stalactite trapped in the glass, ready to hold a unique flower or a delicate branch. The irregular material captures light, fragments it, and gives the vases an almost mineral depth. The two sizes together create a very beautiful balance, both understated and sculptural. These single flower vases are likely attributed to Klaus Breit for the German glassworks Wiesenthalhütte, from around the 1960s-1970s. In good vintage condition, with slight signs of use related to age. 12x9x4 cm and 16x12x4 cm.
