Oil painting on canvas signed Besacier — colourful village landscape

Oil-painted landscape featuring stylised houses and trees, in a vibrant palette of blues, greens, ochres, and reds. Work signed "Besacier", presented in a refreshed patinated frame. This oil on canvas depicts a village landscape with closely packed houses, red roofs, and tall trees. The composition is distinguished by its flat colours and free brushwork, with a clearly visible pictorial texture. The reverse shows signs of fixing and edges with old holes as well as a clean cut. The canvas appears to have been re-stretched or re-canvas on a contemporary frame before my acquisition. This intervention was not carried out by me. These clues may suggest the reuse of an older canvas, but do not allow for dating it. The signature "Besacier" adds an element of mystery to this work. It opens a line of inquiry with paintings referenced under this name, particularly those of Laurence Besacier, although the attribution of this canvas is not confirmed. Its vibrant landscape and this still-open story make it a unique piece, which could appeal as much for its energy as for its enigma. The canvas has been cleaned and the frame refreshed. The surface retains its patina, cracks, and small signs of wear, visible in the photographs. The canvas has been cleaned and the frame refreshed.
