Large plaster bust of Boileau by François Cogné, signed lower right. François Cogné was a sculptor born in Mamers, Sarthe, in 1876. He was best known in the early 20th century for his sculptures of personalities. The most famous are the equestrian statue of Marshal Foch (Place du Trocadéro, Paris, inaugurated in 1951) and the statue of Clemenceau on the Champs-Élysées (Paris, 1932). Shipped in a wooden crate.
