Wooden toy for children

An old Montessori wooden cylinder block, probably dating from the first half of the 20th century. This educational material consists of a long wooden base holding a series of cylinders with progressive diameters, each equipped with a small grip knob. The child was to remove the cylinders and then replace them in their corresponding slots. Designed to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, as well as the perception of dimensions and volumes, this type of play is one of the great classics of Montessori pedagogy. The set has a beautiful old patina and significant signs of use that testify to its history. Eight cylinders are still present from the original ten; two are missing and some knobs show wear. An old educational object that has become particularly decorative, ideal for a child's room, a cabinet of curiosities, or among a collection of old games and educational materials.
