Charming thick earthenware plate, hand-decorated with a bouquet of wild flowers tied with a wide orange ribbon. The scalloped shape highlighted by a navy blue net, the naive floral decoration and the ochre graphic motifs on the rim strongly evoke the productions of the artisan workshops of Meillonnas, in the Roanne region (central-eastern France), active in the 1950s and 1960s. The glaze, deliberately rustic, is typical of popular earthenware of this period: thick enamel, with charming little defects (burst bubbles, irregularities), which reinforce its authentic and handmade character. The small yellow lines painted freehand on the rim bring a new graphic touch, typical of the semi-abstract decorations that some artisan workshops introduced in the 1950s and 1960s to modernize the earthenware tradition. Diameter 24 cm. Very good vintage condition. Some original enamel defects (small burst bubbles visible on the surface), a chip or enamel defect on the back (see photos), no chips or cracks. Back not stamped. For a rustic table or as wall decoration, this handcrafted plate will bring a warm and colorful touch of retro inspiration. Perfect for mixing and matching with other rustic-style earthenware.
