Roaring tiger - Ink - Japan - signed Tessen and dated 1937

This very beautiful Japanese painting is a hanging scroll depicting a roaring tiger. The signature and seal are "## 倦 Tessen". As it is written "t†' Seventy years", this work was created in 1937. OShintani Tessen 新谷鉄儷 (1867-1954) was born in Fukuoka Prefecture. He was known for his beautifully rendered tigers and his representations of Bodhidharma. You can see in the photos some slight traces/stains that are barely visible due to aging. The ends of the scroll are made of bone, one of which is slightly cracked (see photo). A magnificent work lent for exhibition.
