Great 18th century view of Venice

Cod 0854. Wonderful view of venice from the mid-18th century. Oil on canvas artwork of great pictorial quality, evident in the lenticular rendering of the meticulous details of the landscape. What is depicted is the most fascinating and important part of the city. In fact we are on the grand canal and see piazza san marco in all its splendor with the immense bell tower as well as the splendid palazzo ducale. Elegant gondolas cross the canal in a rarefied and highly fascinating atmosphere. To obtain more truth than the human eye can, venetian landscape artists, including canaletto, used the optical camera. With a procedure similar to the camera obscura, rays of light were passed through a small hole inside a box. Once reflected on a sheet of paper, the artist traced the image as if it were a drawing, a very detailed sketch that would later be used to create the actual painting. Magnificent non-coeval 19th century frame in carved and gilded wood, highly decorative. Painting that has undergone restoration with relining, replacement of the frame and restoration of color in some small points. Overall in excellent state of conservation. Sight size h 66 X w 104 cm.
