Roger Guérin (Bouffioulx) - Art Deco Vase in Salt Glaze - Incised Decor Antelope / Gazelle - Belgium, circa 1930. DESCRIPTION: Superb handled vase in high-fired salt glaze, an iconic creation from the famous Belgian manufacturer Roger Guérin in Bouffioulx. This piece is a magnificent example of the Art Deco style of the 1930s. The vase features a deep incised decoration representing a stylised antelope (or gazelle) grazing, typical of the Art Deco bestiary. A geometric frieze with Greek key motifs encircles the shoulder of the vase. The glazing is remarkable, with nuanced drips of deep blue, black, and brown on a textured stone-grey background. The vase retains its original label "Guerin Bouffioulx, " which is a mark of authenticity appreciated by collectors. It is also numbered in relief under the base ("20 C 6"). Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or restorations. The slight irregularities in the glaze are original and typical of artisanal salt firing.
