Adolphe-Félix Broët (1873-1942), Villa La Terrasse, Tournon sur Rhône

Oil on canvas by Adolphe Broët depicting the villa "La Terrasse" in Tournon-sur-Rhône, dated 1911. A local boy, Adolphe Broët is best known for the portraits he created during his career in Paris. His landscapes and buildings are less well-known. Here, he represents the beautiful holiday home of an industrialist from the region in neo-Gothic style (the façade of which has recently been restored). A friendship links the owner of the house, very tall (Broët had to extend his canvas), and the artist, probably created during the artist's holidays in this beautiful region of Ardèche. A lady in pink on a bench poses in front of the house; the sculptures and palm trees that once adorned the garden have now disappeared. This canvas is a precious testimony to a holiday home in Ardèche on the eve of the First World War.
