Authentic bass drum of gilles de binche, brass cask, beautiful patina. Two skins are attached to it. The gille is the most famous character of the carnival in binche, belgium. On mardi gras, a thousand gilles walk the streets of the city to the sound of drums and brass bands. Gille first appeared in the texts in 1795 as a figure revolting against the french political regime of the executive board, which wanted to ban the wearing of the mask. The most popular legend, imagined by the journalist adolphe delmée in the 19th century, is that of the gille descended from the incas (represented as wild men tattooed with feathers on their heads) appeared in costume in a procession at the festivities organized by mary of hungary in 1549 to welcome her brother charles V. Unesco has recognized the binche carnival as a masterpiece of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
