Although part of everyday life, stools and chairs are generally tribal art in africa. They can have ritual significance and be associated with various ceremonies. The word "zindi" is an invitation to sit in mooré, the most practiced language of burkina fasso, especially by the mossis who constitute the main tribe. A sign of the currents and influences that cross sub-saharan africa, these six-legged stools are also found in nigeria, among the nupés. Wooden stools, usually polychrome with conical feet, were offered by their husbands to young brides. Bronze models were the prerogative of royal mansions.
