Villeroy & Boch Mettlach 1562 Old Strasbourg Jug

Large jug by Villeroy & Boch Mettlach, model 1562 "Alt Strassburg / Old Strasbourg". Stamped (green stamp) "Villeroy & Boch / 7 / Mettlach / made in Saar / 1562" and (in relief) "1" (size/format). Villeroy & Boch reissued this model in the 1980s (brown stamp); this is an original piece from the series produced in the 1950s. Floral decoration (tulip and rose on one side, fully bloomed peony on the other) on an ivory background, forest green borders. Fine earthenware semi-porcelain. Beautiful quality in very good condition: no accidents; except for a tiny chip in the glaze on the underside of the lid (see detail photo), no signs of use or wear, shiny glaze, bright colours. Dimensions: height 23 cm (to the finial), volume 2 litres.
