Gerard van den berg created the rock sofa in the 1970s. Produced by the company montis which he founded with his brother ton in 1947. This entity allowed him to realize his desire to bring dutch design back to life, he matured this idea since the beginning of his apprenticeship in his father's workshop in hellevoetsluis. He will continue his apprenticeship at the technical school in rotterdam. He has a great interest in the materials they use, we can even say that they are at the origin of his creations when generally the structure is the design epicenter. He generally uses leather that he stretches on his structures, bringing this finesse representative of his style. His years of experimentation allowed the brothers to invent a new upholstery technique known as jacket, consisting of extending a piece of leather over a metal structure using a zipper. This process is used in particular for this series or on other models such as the mantis or the butterfly. It is no longer produced in its original form, but in a version with a lower backrest. The structure is made up of a metal frame filled with foam and upholstered with black leather. It has a deep seat. Its imposing backrest allows you to zone your space while offering exceptional comfort. In very good condition, completely reupholstered in our workshop.
