The statue, from which this small bust is inspired, is the work of henri chapu, a classical sculptor, who does not choose to represent the virgin warrior in armor but the lorraine shepherdess hearing the voices that ask her to help the king liberate the kingdom. Presented at the last salon of the second empire in 1870, the plaster was transcribed into marble in 1872 and is now in the musée d'orsay. This sculpture was one of the most famous images of joan of arc in france, spread in all dimensions and materials long after 1900. This version, measures 22 cm high by 23 cm wide – weight 1.1 kg.
