Gerhard alexander denis karlmark, born 22 august 1905 in helsingborg, died 1976, was a swedish painter and graphic artist. karlmark studied at the academy of fine arts in stockholm 1924-1930 and in copenhagen, as well as during study trips to france, italy, the netherlands and norway. From 1931, he participated in the exhibitions of the skåne art association every year and exhibited several times with konstnärsgillet in lund. He was represented in the 1951 exhibition of the swedish general art association scanian artists at the liljevalcha art gallery in stockholm. He exhibited separately, malmö town hall, galerie moderne, malmö museum and ystad art museum. His art consists of still lifes, portraits, nudes, figures, interiors, harbor motifs and landscape paintings from norway and southern europe in oil, watercolor or pastel. Karlmark is represented in the malmö museum and the ystad art museum. Two major retrospective exhibitions of the artist's work were organized in 2021 and 2022; partly in the dalby library, partly in the galleri intäppan in björnstorp. In connection with these exhibitions, a new biography of gerhard karlmark – the life of an artist (fri press, 2021) has also been published.
