Fernand Elchinger trefoil vase

A beautiful handkerchief-shaped vase by Elchinger, dating from the 1950s. Black and silver with touches of bright red. Signed on the underside. Fernand Elchinger (1911-1975) was one of the great mid-century ceramicists, known for his free-form pieces, handkerchief vases, and especially his use of contrasting colors, playing with deep blacks and vibrant yellows, reds, or greens! "Elchinger Ceramics" is a family business established in Soufflenheim, Alsace, in 1834. Since then, successive generations have produced a diverse and avant-garde range of ceramics.
