Portrait of an old bearded man - 19th-century school -

Superb 19th-century oil on canvas depicting a character portrait. Period inscriptions on the back indicate that it is a work created by a student of Julius Exner (1825-1910) after his master. Reference to Cologne (Köln) on the reverse where the original work of the famous Danish painter would be preserved. Very fine detail in the treatment of the beard and the gaze. Period frame in gilded wood and stucco. Very good overall condition although the varnish has aged a bit. Dimensions with frame: 26.5 X 30 cm. Dimensions without frame: 24.5 X 20 cm.
