Historic solid wood bedside table. This bedside table comes from a boarding school in the jura region. It was found hidden behind a counter-partition in the attic of a 17th-century building. It is therefore quite complicated to estimate the age of this piece of furniture, which is certainly more than a century old. It has an upper shelf opening with a letter-type storage compartment, and a door on the front with a lock. All of this gives it an old-fashioned "safe" design with large metal hinges. The only restoration I have done on this piece of furniture is a light surface sanding to remove the original surface layer (very dark brown color) and a little sanding of the hinge so that it can be operated again. The whole thing is "in its original condition" as in the photos and has of course suffered the ravages of time, especially during its bulk storage. The upper shelf is a little wormy, the door is slightly curved so you have to force it to close it completely with the lock. But it's possible, as proven by the photos. The various angles are worn. More than just a bedside table, it's a piece of history, made from fine materials that has survived until now.
