Ancient Japanese plate

A presentation plate (charger) in antique Japanese porcelain in blue and white style, typical of the Meiji period (late 19th century) or the Arita / Imari ceramic tradition. Measuring 34cm in diameter, particularly sought after during the Meiji era (1868-1912) for export to the West. This type of object was not intended for everyday table service but served as a decorative piece for grand buffets or to be hung on the wall. The intense cobalt blue (known as sometsuke in Japan) applied by hand under the glaze is very characteristic of this period.
