3439 – 6 port glasses – cristallerie de nancy 1920-1934 from the art deco period, these 6 relatively thick crystal port stemmed glasses stamped with the cristalleries de nancy (1920 -1934) in good condition. No cracks or chips. Strong crystalline sound. Ovoid shape with cut ribs, strong cut hexagonal leg and smooth round foot. Beautiful crystalline sound. The crystal from this manufacturer is rich in a lead content (pbo) of 35%, thus ensuring the highest refraction and dispersion of light. Truly exceptional and rare glasses on the market for lovers of crystal from this period of the early 20th century. Height 104 mm X 56 mm. Weight 900 g. Very, very careful and tracked shipping. For information, an excellent 2020 book by gérard caussaint entitled "nancy, la cristallerie oubliée" and printed in 1000 copies (aloraf éditions - lorraine graphic imprimerie), published for the centenary of the creation of the cristalleries de nancy by éditions aloraf (académie lorraine des arts du feu), traces the wonderful and unfortunate short history of this crystal factory. It is in the favorable context, where renowned manufacturers producing crystal bottles for luxury perfumery and unable to honor the numerous orders pouring in from all over the world, that jules alexis bayet built his own crystal factory in nancy, just opposite that of daum, to meet this strong demand of course but also to produce toiletries, glass services, cups, vases and fancy objects in pure art deco style appreciated internationally. After recruiting the best designers, engineers and masters of art, the first luxury bottles stamped in a circle "cn, separated by the cross of lorraine, nancy" were produced in 1921. While prosperity was there, the stock market crisis of 1929 and the blocking of exports to the united states put it in great difficulty, leading to its loss and then to its oblivion.
