A ceramic vase from a West German manufactory, produced during the 1970s. The distinctive relief pattern covering the vessel's surface and the bold contrast between black and vivid red create an expressive form typical of that decade's experimental approach. Glazed ceramic combines industrial character with artisanal precision. The elongated silhouette transitions smoothly from a narrower base toward an expanded opening. Deep relief creates a three-dimensional texture that reveals interplay of shadows and highlights under changing light. The black surface provides a backdrop for red accents that emphasize the ornamental structure. The glaze lends characteristic lustre while preserving the raw quality of the ceramic material. West German ceramic manufactories developed a recognizable style during the sixties and seventies, now known as Fat Lava — named after the thick, uneven glazes resembling solidified volcanic rock. Producers from the Rhineland region experimented with textures, colours and forms, creating ceramics far removed from traditional smooth finishes. Vases from this period combined industrial-scale production with the individual character of each piece, resulting from hand-applied glazes and reliefs. Standing nearly fifty centimetres tall, this ceramic vase works as a standalone decorative element without requiring flowers or dried arrangements. Its bold form and intense colouring allow it to serve as a striking accent in interiors with a muted palette. Condition is good. The vase shows no significant flaws.
