This large box, with a heavily bulging lid, is from the 1920-40 period, japan. It is made of cherry, and was to be used to store a garment (kimono?). Inside are two flat square boxes. Ink inscriptions. Use skate on the lid. In a corner of the lid: slit and light heaving (see last photo). Note that the assembly uses no nails, only small ankles. Elegant and discreet object.
