Antique ironstone soup tureen from the Sarreguemines factory, decorated in the Fontanges style, recognisable by its elegant 18th-century floral motif, printed in patinated burgundy on an ivory background. The stamp, shape, and decoration allow it to be dated to around 1880-1900. The generous and balanced shape of the tureen, highlighted by its side handles and domed lid with an arched grip, reflects the craftsmanship of the great French manufacturers of the late 19th century. The Fontanges decoration, with its ribboned flowers and delicately worked friezes, adds a refined and warm presence to the table. This piece perfectly embodies the spirit of ironstone: fine, sturdy, and elegant pottery designed for everyday use while remaining decorative. Stamped Sarreguemines, Fontanges, and with an impressed mark. Length 31 cm from handle to handle, opening diameter 23.5 cm, widest diameter 25.5 cm, height with lid 21.5 cm, height without lid 13 cm, base diameter 13 cm. In beautiful vintage condition, with fine cracks in the glaze, slight signs of use, and small marks of time, with noticeable patina on the bottom of the tureen, all consistent with the age of the piece (see photos). A timeless and elegant piece, ideal for a chic flea market table, a refined country house, or a reimagined classic, highly appreciated by lovers of characterful antique tableware.
