This painting represents a young woman reading a letter. It appears to be a love letter. Indeed, the young woman is as if absorbed by what she is reading, and she is leaning near a small open box on the table, undoubtedly a snuffbox, on which we can make out, unfortunately with some difficulty, the portrait of 'a man.
