About the designer: Carl Malmsten (1888–1972) was one of Sweden's most important furniture designers and interior architects, and he opposed strict modernism in many ways. While many Scandinavian designers of the mid-20th century embraced industrial functionalism, Malmsten advocated for a humanistic approach, rooted in craftsmanship, tradition, comfort, and moral responsibility.
