Mirror Napoleon III ebonised wood and gilding 19th century
Magnificent fireplace mirror in the Napoléon III style, with elegant proportions characteristic of its era: rounded upper corners, straight lower corners, in a generous size of 101 × 74 cm. Its wide frame in matte black ebonised wood is adorned with a continuous frieze of arabesques and Gothic relief motifs in gilded stucco, framed by two beaded fillets. The inner edge, black and smooth, is highlighted by a string of golden beads that subtly captures the light. A refined decoration, typical of the Second Empire taste for generous ornamentation and rich materials. The reverse reveals a traditional 19th-century construction: raw wooden boards nailed together and period protective paper, authentic witnesses of a manufacture from the 1860s-1880s. The patina of the whole is consistent with its age, with a few slight chips in the gilded decoration. Central defect in the mirror (visible in the photos). Perfect above a marble fireplace, it will bring to a living room or entrance all the prestige of 19th-century bourgeois furniture. Ready to find its place in your home.
