Refrigerated butter dish or butter dish, Coquillor Glacé model. • Origin: Made in France • Material: Silver-plated metal • Presentation in scallop shell with gadroons all around. • Domed lid and lower tray with a compartment for ice cubes (or cold reserve) to keep the butter fresh. • Interior with an openwork grid (cloud/floral motifs) to place the butter and avoid direct contact with the ice water. • Marks: • Circular hallmark “COQUILLOR-GLACE Bté SGDG Made in France” • Additional square hallmarks on the side, probably corresponding to the manufacturer/master silversmith • Condition: • Good general condition, shiny silver plating but traces of oxidation/small spots of corrosion visible on the interior lid. • Grid and compartment intact, complete mechanism (three parts present). Period • Probably produced between 1930 and 1950, late Art Deco period/1950s. Interest • Chic table service object, typical of bourgeois homes or French hotels of the mid-20th century. • The ice cube system (ice) is quite sought after by tableware collectors😉.
