Kai Kristiansen planter in teak Aksel Kjersgaard Denmark 1960

Sculptural planter designed by Kai Kristiansen and produced by Aksel Kjersgaard in Denmark during the 1960s. Crafted in teak, the planter features a long rectangular body supported by an open architectural base. The warm grain of the teak is particularly visible across the broad side panels, while the dark removable inner liner creates a subtle contrast with the wood. The open lower frame is beautifully shaped, with softly curved transitions between the uprights and horizontal stretchers. These carefully executed details give the planter a light, almost floating appearance despite its substantial proportions. Balanced geometry, refined joinery and subtle sculptural detailing are characteristic of Kai Kristiansen’s approach to Danish modern design, making this an attractive piece both as a functional planter and as a decorative interior object.
