Coffee Table RICE BED INDONESIA

Rare and unique piece of furniture dating from the early 20th century, purchased from an antique dealer in Singapore. This monumental Indonesian rice bed was once used daily as a storage chest and as a bed. The top opens with two small hinged doors to reveal a spacious interior compartment where clothes, bedding, or dry goods such as rice and cereals could be stored. During the day, the chest could be used as a seat or table, and at night, it was padded with bedding to serve as a resting place. Handcrafted from teak wood and minimally decorated, the chest showcases the natural beauty of its material.
