Antique Japanese low table with an elongated wooden top. It comes from Japan, from the Taishō period, around 1920. Two supports with circular cutouts hold the top. Low tables with long narrow tops were used to place trays, calligraphy books, or floral arrangements along the wall of a tatami room. Their elongated proportions distinguish them from square dining tables. The two supports, each with a cut-out silhouette and a circular opening, rest on low slats that distribute the weight. The top, in reddish tones, shows the joints of the boards and the dark patina from decades of hands. As a low bench or elongated coffee table, it works in front of a sofa, under a window, or in an entryway. Its twenty-four centimeters in height call for a low furniture space. Details.
