Magnificent gascon chest from the very beginning of the 19th century. Made by a craftsman, in the agen region, around the 1800s, this superb piece of furniture is entirely in solid walnut. The design is rather simple, with a lid that opens and closes with two cast iron hinges. It has beautiful regional moldings on the 3 exposed sides, and a large metal key locks the lid. The wood and metal have taken on a magnificent patina over the years. The trunk shows traces of time and multiple losses and repairs which make it authentic, but it is sound. An anti-pest treatment was carried out for prevention. Inside, we find a compartment which was used to store salt to season the cold meats that the chest contained.
