Its design reflects a time when the tradition of woodworking remained very much alive, while gradually moving towards more understated, practical, and rational forms. The piece is made from a combination of Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) and kalopanax (Kalopanax septemlobus), two woods commonly used in 20th-century Japanese furniture for their stability, lightness, and good resistance to humidity variations. The contrast between these two woods is particularly noticeable in the structure and inside the drawers, providing a material richness without resorting to ornamentation. The furniture features a low top with elongated proportions, incorporating two discreet front drawers. The structure is clear and well-balanced, with flat side legs that enhance its horizontal and stable character. The visible wear on the surface of the top and on the fronts is consistent with decades of use, giving the whole piece a natural and sincere patina. Devoid of superfluous elements, this table fully embodies the functional spirit of the early Shōwa period, where every detail serves a specific purpose. Today, it integrates seamlessly into contemporary, minimalist, or wabi-sabi interiors. A versatile and measured piece, ideal as a coffee table, living room table, low desk, or accent furniture.
