The functionalist model EK34 is a variant of S411 from Thonet. The popularity of S411 and its licensed version EK34, cf. Catalog pfoto, ensured production for a long time. The EK34 specifically differs from S411 by slightly larger dimensions and a lower position of the seat. The difference in height between two armchairs was quite normal for the time of production – in the 1930s and 40s there was no frame that was identical to another, a difference in size of 1-2 cm was common. Modern CNC machines for tubular steel chairs are capable of producing identical copies – so small differences in size of the same model can serve as an indication of production time. The attribution is based on the labels, cf. Pfoto (Ladislav Žák was the main designer for Hynek Gottwald), which could not be preserved during the galvanization process of chrome plating. Authentically and professionally restored. The wooden frame and the spring core are preserved in their original state. The tubular steel frame was cleaned and newly chrome-plated. Wood cleaned, varnished. Seating refurbished and covered with calf nappa leather.
