Modernist soliflore vase in stoneware from La Borne - Pierre Devie, 1977

Splendid and rare rectangular-shaped sculpture vase in high-fire glazed stoneware, created by the famous French ceramist Pierre Devie (born in 1938). This architectural and highly graphic piece dates from his most sought-after period, when he was based in Prats-de-Mollo in the Pyrénées-Orientales. It is dated in his hand 1977 and signed underneath. Pierre Devie trained at the Massana School in Barcelona under the legendary Catalan master Josep Llorens I Artigas (historical collaborator of Joan Miró). His work is distinguished by absolute technical rigour and a unique modernist purity. Aesthetic characteristics: Shape: A raw minimalist block, softened by a superb asymmetrical quarter-circle cut on the upper part. A very "Brutalist" and structured silhouette. Decor: An abstract and organic graphic painted in dark oxide (brown/green iron) on a textured, grainy background speckled with beige, pink, and grey hues, typical of high-temperature firings from the 1970s. Use: Ideal as an Ikebana vase or simply displayed as a modernist sculpture on a Scandinavian sideboard. Condition: Very beautiful original vintage condition.
