Old and rare educational wall chart from the Maison Deyrolle. It dates from the end of the 19th century. “Botany, Rubiaceae” “Published in Paris by Emile Deyrolle, naturalist, 46 Rue du Bac. Imp. Monrocq Paris” canvas paper fixed on two wooden hanging rods. In its original condition, wear and traces of time (see Photos) Height: 115 cm / Width: 88 cm. Very decorative, these old charts are true works of art, enhanced by their old patina and the marks of time. Deyrolle and the educational charts: created in 1831, Maison Deyrolle has been located since 1888 in the 17th century mansion at 46 Rue du Bac, in Paris. It was previously located at 23 Rue de la Monnaie. It offers nature enthusiasts collections of insects and shells, all kinds of stuffed animals, natural curiosities and educational materials for teaching natural sciences. In 1866, Emile Deyrolle took over the Deyrolle house founded in 1831 by his grandfather. Deyrolle then experienced a new boom thanks to the creation of educational boards that he created and marketed in parallel with the sale of insects and stuffed animals. Published under the name of “Musée scolaire Deyrolle”, these illustrated wall boards were very successful. In 1870, the state became Deyrolle's first customer, supplying all French schools. These boards were intended for all classes, from primary to secondary as well as university and were intended to teach “object lessons”, botany, zoology, entomology, geography, anatomy, biology… etc… Emile Deyrolle said: “Education through the eyes is that which tires the intelligence the least, but this education can only have good results if the ideas which are engraved in the child's mind are of rigorous accuracy.”
