Golden wood “witch’s eye” sun mirror

Splendid “witch’s eye” sun mirror in gilded wood. The witch's eye mirror was created in the 15th century. It was believed to have magical powers and allowed merchants to watch customers in a shop or pharmacy out of the corner of their eye while remaining seated at their desk. Carved wooden sun mirrors have also decorated churches since the Renaissance. Then they were brought up to date in post-war interiors. The wood and concave mirror are in excellent condition.
