Superb lamp base in stoneware made by Pierre Digan (1941-2016), a ceramist and sculptor based in La Borne, Cher. This piece features an elegant flattened spherical shape, with generous volumes and particularly clean lines. Its low, rounded silhouette gives it a distinctly modernist aesthetic, characteristic of design from the 1960s-1970s. The stoneware, with beautiful natural shades of terracotta, orange-brown, and ochre, has a matte and slightly satin surface, punctuated by small dark inclusions. The fine concentric traces from the turning, visible on the upper part, highlight the artisanal nature of this creation. Pierre Digan (1941-2016) is one of the important figures in the revival of La Borne ceramics. Trained at the School of Applied Arts in Beaune under Michel Lucotte, he settled in La Borne in 1960 and founded his own workshop there. In the 1960s-1970s, he developed a production of utilitarian and decorative stoneware with modern shapes, including lighting fixtures, while continuing his sculptural work. His workshop Digan Grès experienced significant growth and contributed to the international prominence of French ceramics. A beautiful collectible piece, representative of the aesthetics of La Borne stoneware and French design from the second half of the 20th century. Dimensions: Height: 30 cm, including socket. Diameter: 30 cm. Condition: presence of a hairline crack on the ceramic. Sold as is, in accordance with the photographs.
