Watercolour by Madeleine ROUART (1896-1986), daughter of Alexis ROUART (1869-1921), friend of DEGAS, and granddaughter of Henri ROUART (1833-1912), a great patron of Impressionist painters. In a painting by Edgar DEGAS visible on the Petit Palais website, Madeleine ROUART can be seen with her mother and sister. In the attached photo from 1899, we can see young Madeleine ROUART posing with her parents and DEGAS. It was in this very artistically favourable environment that Madeleine ROUART began to paint at a young age. She is said to have held her first exhibition at the BERNHEIM gallery in Paris in 1923. Dimensions: 40cm X 32cm (sight) and 58cm X 41cm (with frame).
