Art deco dishes by Gilliot & Compagnie

◾️🔶 set of five splendid art deco dishes, manufactured by the belgian tile company gilliot & compagnie (manufactures céramiques d’hemixem) in the 1920’s 🔶◾️ Founded in 1897 by george gilliot in hemiksem, on the schelde as floor and wall tile factory, making a wide range of dust-pressed tiles and tile panels of the highest quality. In 1913, more than 250.000 tiles a day were produced by its 1000 employees, making it the biggest european tile factory. In 1968 the company was acquired by the dutch company royal sphinx maestricht, which led to the end of its activities in 1977. Today there’s still a museum dedicated to the company and its œuvre, called the “gilliot & roelants tegelmuseum” in hemiksem. Condition: good vintage condition (no chips nor cracks; the inner edges of the dishes - except for the orange one - are somewhat scuffed in some places; see pictures) Dimensions: length 27cm, width 16cm.
