Pair of "swid powell" candlesticks by richard meier, in silvered bronze called alpaca. Small-run edition by cleto munari in italy, impeccable quality and quite heavy. Signature and stamp under the candelabras. Perfect condition. This important project of meier was originally a drawing for a chimney clock that was never realized, then reworked to obtain this form of candelabra. Unlike the King Richard de Meier candlestick which was made in fairly large numbers, these candelabras are very difficult to find. Similar models are in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the High Museum of Art, the Yale University Art Gallery... Bibiography: Tapert, annette. Biography: Peter Richard Alan Meier (born 1934 in New Jersey) is an American architect and abstract artist. After graduating from Cornell University, he visited Italy, Greece, Israel, France, Germany, then worked for Skidmore and Marcel Breuer. It was not until 1963 that he created his agency "Richard Meier & Parteners" in New York. In parallel with his activity as an architect, he taught at the Cooper Union (1962-1973), Yale (1975-1977) and Harvard (1980-1981). Richard Meier is the author of several private houses including the famous "Douglas House" in Harbor Springs (1973). His work on light, white color, space and form brings him closer to Le Corbusier, but also to the Viennese Secession Art Nouveau (Josef Hoffmann - Wiener Werkstätte) often confused with Art Deco. Cleto Munari is an internationally renowned company born in Italy in 1970 with the production and edition of design objects created by the greatest names in architecture such as gio ponti, carlo scarpa, ettore sottsass...
