Rocking chair in bentwood, very likely a model inspired by or made by the famous Austrian company Thonet, or one of its direct competitors like Kohn or Fischel. It is made from steam-bent wood, a technique industrialised by Michael Thonet in the 19th century. The design, featuring large S-shaped or spiral side scrolls, is typical of the late 19th or very early 20th century (Art Nouveau period). The structure is made of stained beech with a cherry or walnut finish. The seat and backrest are made of traditional rattan caning. The caning is neat and well-tensioned. The wood has a beautiful patina. The visible screws at the back and under the feet are characteristic of these models, which were often delivered in kit form at the time. The chair is stable and the wood is not cracked. It is a timeless classic of design that fits perfectly into modern or vintage interiors. Width 54, depth 52, height 100/38.
