Swedish Modern rug from Viola Grasten for Nordiska Kompaniet, 1960’s

Viola gråsten is celebrated in sweden as a designer of mid-century printed textiles. But her first work in sweden was as a rug designer. During the 1950s, the phrase “gråsten-colour” became common in sweden, describing particularly saturated, jewel-toned hues of purple, blue and green. Gråsten’s rya carpets had a deeper pile than was usual, as to make shadows that created a depth and intensity of her already vibrant colors. Condition. Good, usage marks. Dimensions. Width: 135 cm.
